Izaz Cafe Karakoy
location: Istanbul, Turkey
year: 2025
type: hospitality
status: underconstruction
area: 64 m²
The ''Izaz Cafe Karakoy'' Project is designed around a layered relationship between historical context and contemporary spatial experience within the ground floor of a 150-year-old building located in Karakoy, Istanbul. Spanning 64 sqm, the project reinterprets the existing stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and historical texture through a strong material palette and atmospheric spatial approach.
Rather than being organized around a single focal point, the interior offers a multi-layered experience shaped through patterns, objects, surfaces, and light. Traditional motifs, mashrabiya-inspired surfaces, and custom-designed details are reinterpreted within a contemporary narrative language, allowing each element to become part of the spatial storytelling.
The warm balance between orange, purple, and deep red tones is combined with stone, marble, bronze, and textured materials to create a rich yet controlled atmosphere. Built-in seating areas, aged mirrors, rugs, and display surfaces transform the space into more than a café, creating a timeless environment shaped around memory, culture, and sensory experience.
